Allan Barry Laboucan
Founder, Rocks And Stocks News | President & CEO, Advance Lithium Corp | Host of the Lab Report
"Daily junior-miner deep dives on the Lab Report and more than three decades in mining, from the Allan Barry Report to Smoke Signals Investing."
Biography
Allan Barry Laboucan is the founder of Rocks And Stocks News and host of its daily Lab Report, where he breaks down junior mining stocks the same day their news crosses the wire. A First Nations mining entrepreneur, he has worked in the sector since 1993 and covered it as a reporter and interviewer since 2005. He is also President, CEO and a director of Advance Lithium Corp (TSX-V: AALI, formerly Advance Gold), a small exploration company with lithium salars (salt flats whose brines can hold lithium) and gold projects in Mexico. That combination of operator and commentator is the draw: he reads press releases, economic studies and financing terms the way a company insider does.
He founded the Allan Barry Report in 2005, an online show of interviews with mining executives, and appeared frequently on business television and at investor conferences. In 2017 he published Smoke Signals Investing: An Insider's Guide to Finding Junior Mining Stocks Before They Take Off, which reached No. 1 on Amazon's Energy & Mining Industry bestseller list. On the executive side, he was appointed President and CEO of Alset Energy in October 2016 and has led the company through its renames to Advance Gold and, in December 2021, Advance Lithium. Under his tenure it acquired 13 lithium-potassium-boron salars in Mexico (2020), added the Sarape gold project (2022), and agreed in 2023 to buy Wolfden Resources' Bathurst Mining Camp projects in New Brunswick, while holding talks with LitioMx, Mexico's state lithium company, about a possible joint venture.
Each Lab Report episode pairs a market overview with deep dives on a handful of companies in the news, and the show is powered by the investor platform CEO.CA, where his videos also run on the official channel. Two tools anchor his analysis: the Lassonde Curve, a model describing the stages through which exploration juniors typically de-risk and revalue from discovery toward production, and sentiment readouts from CEO.CA users. When he weighs economic studies, he has said he favors IRR (internal rate of return, the annualized return a project is expected to generate) and payback period over headline NPV (net present value, what a project's future cash flows are worth today). His coverage spans precious and base metals juniors across Mexico, the United States, Canada and Brazil, set against a macro view built on monetary policy; in September 2026 he argued that renewed quantitative easing was "inevitable and closer than people think" and supportive of gold, silver and copper.
Laboucan works from Zacatecas, Mexico, and publishes daily on the Rocks And Stocks News Substack, with audio versions distributed as the Rocks And Stocks News podcast. He discloses that he often holds shares or warrants in companies he covers, and he tells readers he is "only an idea generator" whose work is a starting point for their own research. For a resource investor, the value is watching an experienced junior-market participant sort news flow in real time, with the skepticism of someone who has run a public company himself.

Lab Report | July 21 Deep Dive on Puma
- Top takeaway The host argues Puma's near-surface, coarse visible gold is a promising start and that the system now needs to be drilled deeper, since shallow high-grade zones in these systems often expand at depth.
- He sees the McKenzie fault tracking the geophysical anomaly as the key structural feature, calling it the crack in the earth that metal-bearing fluids used as a path of least resistance to the surface.
- He frames the market setup favorably as of July 21, 2026 — the stock up about 13.6% to a $25 million valuation, 5 million shares freeing up in 33 days, and more bids than asks — but cautions the depth of market must hold over the next few days before the move becomes a trend.
- He likes New Brunswick as a pro-mining jurisdiction with a mining history and an appetite for new mines.
- He encourages viewers to paste Puma's news-release recap into an AI tool and have it explain the drill results in simple terms.
Puma Exploration's first drilling at its Rim zone, part of the Mackenzie gold project in New Brunswick, confirmed a high-grade gold system near surface. Headline hits reached 42 g/t (grams per tonne) over 0.25 metres — thin, shallow veins of coarse visible gold worth following at depth. The McKenzie fault — the crack metal-bearing fluids follow upward — tracks the geophysical anomaly, a sign the targeting geophysics are working. Shares jumped 13.6% to a $25 million valuation, but 5 million shares come free trading in 33 days — watch the depth of market. Subsurface data from the debut program will feed 3D modeling to target deeper holes, with results defining follow-up drill targets for fall.
Lab Report | July 21 Deep Dive on Kingfisher
- Top takeaway Laboucan's central claim is that a major putting its own money in after due diligence is a good sign for Kingfisher, though not a perfect one since major miners do not always execute well.
- He argues the vast surface alteration at Highway 37 signals a large system, citing the mining maxim that big systems leave big footprints and comparing it to South American copper belts.
- He points to the site's proximity to one of the Golden Triangle's great mines, with the same kind of alteration package appearing across the valley, as further evidence for the project.
- He reads the roughly $47 million treasury as funding a large 2026 drill program while leaving about half the money for 2027.
- He notes Barrick has been rebuilding exploration expertise by hiring senior porphyry geologists after years of majors cutting exploration teams, and argues gold-rich copper porphyry in a safe jurisdiction is where investors want to be.
Barrick is buying 15 million Kingfisher Metals units at $1.35, a $20 million CAD private placement that lifted the stock 22%. Kingfisher will hold $47 million after closing, enough for a large 2026 drill program and about half the treasury for 2027. The host reads a major investing after due diligence as a good sign, not a guarantee, and calls it an endorsement of the ground. Huge surface alteration — rock changed by mineral-bearing fluids — signals a large system; a proven mine sits across the valley. After two decades of dropping exploration teams, major miners including Barrick are hiring senior porphyry — copper-gold intrusion — specialists.
Lab Report | July 21 Deep Dive on Brixton
- Top takeaway The host is strongly positive on the Langis results, insisting the intercepts are bonanza grade regardless of regulatory wording and saying Brixton looks to have found a jewelry box full of bonanza-grade silver at the Shaft 6 Southeast target.
- He argues the geology, high-grade silver repeating in three rock packages which he likens to three layers of a cake along one stratigraphic horizon over 500+ meters with only a few holes in between, indicates a powerful mineralizing system worth following even deeper.
- He contends hole 353's 13 meters at 287 g/t silver is around the grade that makes a silver mine in his experience living in Mexico, so the story stands even setting aside the bonanza sub-intervals (2.15 m at 1,634 g/t and 0.65 m at 4,320 g/t).
- On the market, he flags that the offers are thin while the bids are strong as a good indicator the stock could go up, and expects the news to catch a lot of attention after the stock's earlier run alongside other silver and gold companies.
- He speculates the tailings drilling is meant to prove up enough silver for early mining that could help pay for ongoing exploration, and encourages investors to study the drilling details and release themselves.
Brixton Metals reported 5,015 g/t (grams per tonne) silver over 20 metres at Langis, in the historic silver camp of Cobalt, Ontario. A new Brownfield zone — fresh ground in a historic mining camp — shows bonanza-grade (exceptionally rich) silver across three stacked rock layers. Bonanza hits usually sit in narrow one-to-five-metre veins, the host notes, so a 20-metre intersection at these grades stands out. The stock rose about 6%; the host reads thin offers against strong bids and watches a placement whose shares free-trade in 21 days. Drilling toward a resource estimate (a formal tally of in-place metal) on historic tailings continues; the host thinks early tailings mining could fund exploration.
Lab Report | July 21 Daily Market Overview
- Top takeaway As a natural contrarian, he is bullish on gold, silver and copper equities because sentiment toward gold and silver miners is currently dismal while the underlying fundamentals he cites are strong.
- He expects copper miners to do especially well going forward as demand from electric vehicles, artificial intelligence and robotics outruns a supply side that cannot react quickly enough.
- He sees gold as having run from roughly $3,300 a year earlier to $5,500 before correcting, and attributes the pullback largely to an overdone assumption that the new Federal Reserve chair will be hawkish.
- He reads silver as following gold's path, having climbed from about $38 to $120 and now trading sideways, and on July 21, 2026 it was up $2.16, or 3.8%, which he views as ready to break out higher.
- He argues a long-running supply shortfall underpins all three metals, with too few new discoveries to replace depleting mines and production staying roughly flat despite prices that are very handsome for miners.
Gold, silver and copper production has stayed flat despite record prices, as new discoveries fail to replace depleting mines. Weak sentiment in gold, silver and copper equities alongside strong fundamentals is the setup the host finds most compelling. Bond yields sit at yearly highs, and easing them takes more quantitative easing — balance sheet growth — than the $500 billion added since November 2025. The host reads the new Federal Reserve chair as a dove in hawk's clothing, expecting rate cuts to push gold toward record highs in 2026. Copper demand from electric vehicles, artificial intelligence and robotics keeps running into supply that cannot respond.
Lab Report | July 20 Deep Dive on Barksdale
- Top takeaway He argues the July 20 Barksdale release deserves a closer read than the market gave it, saying the share-price drop reflected a negative headline reaction rather than the substance of the update.
- He thinks Barksdale may be onto an important discovery and calls the ground elephant country for copper deposits.
- He cautions that mines are not established with one or two holes, and urges viewers to follow the series of results as the new Sunnyside target is drilled out.
- He favours wide step-out drilling over close-in holes, pointing to 600 to 650 metre lateral step-outs from the initial discovery pad as evidence of a large target being tested.
- He closes by telling viewers to keep watching the new releases, do the homework and speak with their financial advisors before acting on the story.
The market read July's drilling update as negative, sending Barksdale down 13% on 3.5x average volume after a 10-to-53-cent run. Barksdale's 10-hole 2026 program is nearly done, and its drilling commitment lifts ownership of the Sunnyside project to 67.5%. Step-out holes sit 600 to 650 meters from the discovery pads, showing Barksdale testing how large the target really is. One hole returned 1.93% copper equivalent — a grade blending copper, gold and silver into copper terms — across more than 7.6 meters. Read the intercept detail and the map, not the headline number: most discovery stocks spike on news, then give some back.
Lab Report | July 20 Daily Market Overview
- Top takeaway Laboucan argues the fiat currency and debt system is broken and that central banks loading up on gold mark the start of a 'gold standard 2.0', making him very bullish on gold, silver, and copper because supply is weak and demand is strong.
- He attributes gold's run to about 5,600 before easing to about 4,000 as of the July 20, 2026 overview to the war in Iran and a new Fed chair whom Wall Street expects to be hawkish but whom he expects to be a dove, keeping the US dollar under pressure.
- He expects the Fed's quantitative easing, which he says has grown by about 500 billion dollars since it started in November 2025, to ramp up further to manipulate the yield curve.
- He calls copper his 'gold of the base metals', needed for power grids, electric vehicles, cloud computing, AI, cryptocurrencies, and robotics, and views silver as a monetary-industrial hybrid used mainly in solar panels.
- He is launching a new daily show, The Lab Report powered by CEO.ca, with a market overview plus one to three deep dives into standout news releases, running Monday through Thursday.
The host argues central banks now hold more gold than US debt, evidence that a "gold standard 2.0" is underway. He expects the new Fed chair to prove dovish and extend quantitative easing (central bank bond-buying), pressuring an overvalued US dollar. Copper (Dr. Copper — the metal that tracks economic health) draws his bullish demand case from power grids, AI, and electrification. Silver sits between gold and copper — part monetary, part industrial (mainly solar) — and constrained supply underpins his bullishness on all three. The debut of a new daily show pairs this market overview with separate deep dives into standout mining news releases, Monday through Thursday.
