"Leading Teck-backed exploration for nickel and copper sulfides in Wyoming's Granite Mountains, including the King Solomon discovery."

Mining Executive

Biography

Wes Adams is the CEO and a director of Visionary Metals Corp. (TSX-V: VIZ), a Vancouver-based explorer hunting for nickel and copper sulfides — the mineral style behind many of the world's major nickel mines — in Wyoming's Granite Mountains. The company works under an exploration alliance with Teck Resources and also owns the Slipstream copper-gold-silver porphyry project (a porphyry is a large, typically lower-grade deposit type that hosts much of the world's copper) on the Utah–Nevada border. For investors tracking United States mineral supply chains, Adams is the executive setting the drill targets on both.

A third-generation mining executive, Adams began his career in Guyana in operations management for the privately owned company that discovered and developed the Toroparu gold deposit, one of Guyana's largest, cited at roughly eleven million ounces in his company biography. He joined Sandspring Resources (later Gold X Mining) after its reverse takeover onto the public markets and helped raise nearly $100 million for the Toroparu project. In 2014 he moved to Wyoming's Powder River Basin, founded the oil and gas services company Energy Fuels Environmental, and sold it to a major midstream energy company in 2017.

Visionary — formerly Galileo Exploration, then Visionary Gold — intersected 44.5 metres of 0.23% nickel at its King Solomon project in 2023, in what the company describes as Wyoming's first nickel sulfide discovery. Under Adams, the company secured a 2025 exploration alliance giving Teck an initial 9.9% equity position and an option to earn a 70% interest in designated properties, acquired the Slipstream project in January 2026, and closed a $7.445 million financing to fund its 2026 drill season.

His method is geophysics-first and partner-funded. Helicopter-borne VTEM and ground electromagnetic surveys map conductive bodies — often sulfide minerals — before a drill turns, and the 2026 program uses that data to test eight targets with up to 4,500 metres of drilling at King Solomon and Tin Cup. Alliances carry much of the cost: the Teck agreement funds exploration toward Teck earning its interest, while Wyoming state grants, including a US$250,000 Energy Matching Funds award in 2026, support the geophysics. Around him sits a nickel-focused technical team led by chief geologist Michael Page, formerly Director of Exploration at Norilsk Nickel and an exploration executive with Ivanhoe, BHP and Gold Fields.

Adams lays out his thesis in public. In an August 12, 2026 interview on the Commodity Culture channel, he argued that copper demand is outrunning mine supply and that United States policy is pushing critical mineral projects forward. Following him offers a working view of how a junior explorer is financed and de-risked — equity raises, major-company alliances, government grants — plus a direct test of whether central Wyoming can host a new nickel-copper sulfide district. Early work at Slipstream adds optionality: a database of 405 historic and new surface rock samples there includes copper values up to 5.0% and gold up to 20.1 grams per tonne (g/t).

  • Top takeaway Adams says he is extremely bullish on copper, arguing long-life mines like Bingham Canyon and Grasberg are not being replaced by enough major new discoveries, with permitting, water, and infrastructure pushing near-term replacement supply years out
  • He is bullish on nickel sulfide (especially North American) over Indonesian laterite on quality and environmental grounds, and cites Indonesian production cuts (~60% of global supply) plus the aging of supergiant deposits (Perseverance, Mount Keith, Raglan) as supportive supply-side factors
  • On gold, Adams argues the underlying driver is extraordinary global government spending and purchasing-power pressure, with the Iran and Ukraine conflicts adding support; he expects sustained higher prices in the current inflationary environment
  • He frames nickel as counter-cyclical to gold and silver, noting nickel had its last bull market in 2012 as gold and silver topped out, and suggests a similar setup could be forming now while stopping short of calling the end of the gold bull
  • Adams positions Visionary as a discovery-stage rerating story, leaning on Tecks partnership and the Talon/Eagle precedent as the comparable for what Visionary could become

Aging flagship copper mines like Bingham Canyon and Grasberg outlast a thin pipeline of major new discoveries, anchoring a long-term supply squeeze. Sulfide and laterite are not interchangeable nickel ores — North American sulfide concentrates are cleaner and favored for battery and stainless-steel markets. Visionary Metals secures a major strategic backer — Teck (14% owner) can earn up to 70% in two Wyoming nickel-copper projects by spending on exploration. Per the guest, junior miners rerate hardest on first discovery — small $10–20M valuations can leap to $100–200M after a meaningful drill intercept. US critical-metals policy is no longer just talk: Fast 41 speeds permitting while the Departments of War and Energy put real funding behind domestic projects.
