"GoldFix macro-markets newsletter and weekly precious metals commentary"
Biography
Vince Lanci is a commodity analyst and portfolio manager who has spent more than three decades working inside the precious metals market — a resource investor's interest in him starts with the fact that he has watched the gold and silver trade from the trading floor, through the migration to electronic execution, and into today's era of Shanghai pricing and central-bank revaluation. He is the founder and owner of Echobay Partners LLC and the publisher of the GoldFix macro-markets newsletter on Substack, a successor to his earlier SilverFix work at Arcadia Economics, where he walks readers through the same data he watches in his own book.
His career traces the full arc of modern metals trading. Earlier in his career Lanci owned and operated Berard Capital LLC (1993–2003), an option market-making firm, and co-founded Whentech with David Wender, a trading-technology venture where he served as chief architect. That background — floor trading, options market-making, and the engineering of execution systems — informs the structural bent of his precious metals coverage: he reads gold and silver not as chart patterns but as plumbing, focusing on where liquidity is sourced, where it dries up, and which venue is setting the marginal price.
For a resource investor, the value of Lanci's work is the linkage he draws between macro policy, central-bank behavior, and the metals tape. He is a regular commentator on ZeroHedge and the host of its weekly "Gold, Goats 'n Guns" segment, and a frequent guest on shows covering China–US monetary dynamics, COMEX versus Shanghai pricing, and silver's recurring liquidity squeezes. He also teaches MBA finance as a university professor, and his on-air style — plain-English translation of inflation, real rates, and futures-market structure — reflects that. A mining-stock investor following him gets a working map of the macro overlay that drives the metals: Fed policy, dollar liquidity, Chinese demand, and the physical-versus-paper split on COMEX and the London OTC market.
His current focus is the revaluation thesis: that gold is being repriced by China's accumulation and bilateral trade use, with COMEX losing pricing primacy as Shanghai volumes rise; silver sits inside that same revaluation frame but with a tighter physical market and a more exploitable liquidity gap. He frames both metals as hedges against a debasing currency system rather than as standalone trades, and pairs that thesis with named levels and watch-points — useful discipline for anyone sizing into miners and the metals themselves.
