Chief Executive Officer | Power Metal Resources PLC | Project incubator model across uranium, critical minerals, and exploration

"Running Power Metal Resources as a project incubator — acquiring, funding, and spinning out exploration projects, including a roughly twelvefold return on the Guardian Metal stake"

Mining Executive

Biography

Sean Wade is the Chief Executive Officer of Power Metal Resources PLC (AIM: POW), a natural resources company listed on AIM, London's market for smaller growth companies. Power Metal operates as a project incubator: it acquires and explores early-stage mineral projects, then lists or sells them so their value is realised rather than held indefinitely. The approach has already produced a measurable result — a stake in Guardian Metal Resources, a Nevada tungsten developer, that Power Metal built from an investment of roughly £1.9 million and has crystallised at around £23 million, a return of close to twelve times.

Wade was appointed CEO in March 2023 after more than two decades in resource capital markets. He began his career at Cazenove & Co in 1993, was a founding shareholder of the London brokerage Liberum Capital in 2007, and later held senior roles at Berkeley Energia PLC (a uranium developer in Spain), Pensana PLC (rare earths), and Asia Resource Minerals PLC (Indonesian coal). He founded the advisory firm Scout Advisory Limited in 2020 and has worked across initial public offerings (IPOs — a company's first listing on a stock exchange), secondary placings (sales of new shares to institutional investors), and M&A.

The incubator method shapes what Power Metal owns: district-scale exploration ground where a discovery can reprice a project quickly, plus a defined path to market for each asset. The portfolio has included uranium in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin through the Fermi Exploration joint venture, tungsten in Nevada via the separately listed Guardian Metal Resources, nickel and platinum-group metal exploration at the Molopo Farms Complex in Botswana, and early-stage ground in Saudi Arabia. The company has also been working toward an IPO of its uranium division, hiving those assets into their own listed company so investors can value and trade them directly.

Wade walked through the model live at the 2026 Rule Symposium, where Power Metal was characterised as something like a mining merchant bank — building, funding, and monetising projects rather than operating mines itself. Following him is a window into the capital markets mechanics that decide whether junior exploration pays: when to place shares, when to bring in joint venture partners, and when to spin an asset out. The near-term markers are the uranium division's path to a listing and Guardian Metal's progress toward tungsten production in Nevada.

  • Top takeaway Wade's headline claim is that Power Metal turned a little under £2 million into about £23 million on Guardian Metal — more than 12 times its money — which he argues validates its mining merchant bank model.
  • He says the Guardian proceeds left Power Metal with roughly £8 million of cash against a £14.5 million market cap (as of the May 2026 interview), so investors pay about £6.5 million for the entire asset base.
  • He lays out a per-share value stack: 23 pence of shareholders' funds per share on NAV, and roughly 28 pence per share of attributable value once unlisted assets are marked at management's estimate of just over £30 million in total.
  • He names three potential multi-baggers: Fermi Exploration (uranium in the Athabasca Basin and Labrador, funded by a £10 million U-Kam joint venture that leaves Power Metal shareholders a 30% free carry), Apex Royalties (£4 million for roughly 12%, worth 12.2 pence per Power Metal share at spot prices), and Mine Starters (£1 million in a tokenised mining-equities platform).
  • He argues the new deployments are not diversification to reduce risk but a deliberate attempt to increase the number of potential 10-baggers in the portfolio.

Sean Wade explains how Power Metal's merchant-bank model turned a sub-£2 million tungsten stake into about £23 million via Guardian Metal's IPO and exit. The balance sheet carries about £8 million cash against a £14.5 million market cap, so investors pay roughly £6.5 million for the whole asset base. Wade counts 28 pence per share of attributed value against a 23 pence NAV (net asset value — what the holdings are worth on the books). A £10 million joint venture funds uranium drilling in Canada's Athabasca Basin and Labrador, leaving Power a 70% free carry (equity with no funding obligation). A £4 million stake in Apex Royalties holds tungsten-heavy royalties worth 12.2 pence per share at spot, about 90% of the market cap.
