Ryan Shea
President | Rubellite Energy Corp. | Clearwater and Montney Oil & Gas Producer
"Running the financial and now operational side of a publicly listed junior E&P through its first year, capital-discipline messaging, and Clearwater / Montney execution"
Biography
Ryan Shea is the President of Rubellite Energy Corp. (TSX: RBY), a Calgary-based junior oil and gas producer he helped build from inception. Resource investors follow him because he has run the financial and operational side of a publicly listed E&P through its first full year of operation and its first major acquisition cycle, and because he now speaks for the company on capital allocation in the Clearwater play of Northeast Alberta.
Shea joined Rubellite in 2022 as Chief Financial Officer and was promoted to President in early 2025. He brings more than 18 years of oil and gas industry experience to the role. Before Rubellite he served as Vice President Finance at Vesta Energy Corp. and earlier as Vice President Finance at Cardinal Energy Ltd., two Alberta-focused producers where he worked on reserve-based lending, hedging programs, and year-end reserve evaluations under NI 51-101 — the Canadian standard for how oil and gas companies disclose producing assets, reserves, and future net revenue.
Shea's day-to-day focus is capital discipline. In the 2022 Q4 results he led the company through its first reporting cycle as a public issuer; in the 2023 budget update he framed Rubellite's capital program as fully funded within cash flow from operations, a position that matters to investors because it removes the need for dilutive equity raises during the drilling phase. His appointment to the Board of Directors of the Explorers and Producers Group of Canada (EPAC), within the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC), in January 2025 puts him in the room where Alberta junior-E&P policy is shaped.
For a resource investor the relevance is narrower than for a metals executive: Rubellite is not a hard-rock miner, it is an oil and gas producer with assets in the Clearwater heavy oil play and, more recently, the Montney in British Columbia. Following Shea is worth it if you want a real-time read on Clearwater economics, Montney consolidation among juniors, and the cash-flow-funded growth model that has become a template for Alberta's mid-cap E&Ps.
