PJ Murphy

Chief Executive Officer & Director | Forge Resources Corp. (CSE: FRG) | Colombian coal funding Yukon copper-gold

"The 'barbell' model at Forge Resources: Colombian coal cash flow funding Yukon copper-gold exploration without repeated share issues."

Mining Executive

Biography

PJ Murphy is the chief executive officer and a director of Forge Resources Corp. (CSE: FRG; OTCQB: FRGGF), a British Columbia junior miner with a two-pronged plan: use a fully permitted coal project in Colombia to generate near-term revenue, and spend it drilling a large copper-gold target in the Yukon. He has run that plan since December 2024, and resource investors get a working example of how a small company can pay for exploration from operations instead of repeatedly issuing shares.

Murphy joined Forge as chairman and director in September 2024 and was appointed chief executive officer that December, succeeding Cole McClay, who moved to chief operating officer. In early 2025 Forge closed the acquisition of a 60% interest in Aion Mining Corp., the private company developing the La Estrella coal project in Santander, Colombia, and has since lifted its stake to 80%. La Estrella is fully permitted for 180,000 tonnes of coal per year across eight known seams of metallurgical coal (the coal used to make steel) and thermal coal. In September 2026 the company completed its underground ramp to operational depth and began the crosscut toward the coal seams — the last major underground step before extraction.

His route into mining ran through investing and operations rather than geology. Forge's leadership page credits him with more than 25 years of management experience in the healthcare and real estate sectors, a record of closed transactions, and a value investor's habit of backing undervalued assets; he holds a Bachelor of Science from McGill University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Dalhousie University. He also sits on the board of Starr Peak Mining (TSXV: STE) and joined the advisory board of Super Copper (CSE: CUPR), a copper explorer in Chile's Atacama region, in November 2024.

At Forge, the revenue side of the barbell funds the discovery side: the Alotta project, a copper-gold-molybdenum porphyry target (porphyries are large intrusion-hosted deposits that supply much of the world's copper) in the Yukon near the Casino deposit. Drilling in 2025 returned 76.93 metres grading 2.03 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, including 1.25 metres at 105 g/t, and 2026 results point to multiple porphyry centres across a four-kilometre trend. Forge has invested about $9.1 million in its projects to date, and Atrium Research initiated coverage with a BUY rating.

For resource investors, Murphy is worth following as a live test of the self-funding junior model: whether Colombian coal revenue arrives on schedule (the company reported two additional coal seams in May 2026 and is pursuing export permits with coal prices at multi-year highs), and whether Alotta's drilling keeps expanding. He lays out the case himself in regular video interviews, including with goldinvest.de and Canadian Securities Exchange programming.

  • Top takeaway As Forge's CEO, he argues the company's barbell strategy — coal revenue in Colombia funding gold-copper exploration in the Yukon — puts it on a road to revenue, eventual profitability, and self-funded, non-dilutive exploration.
  • He reports the La Estrella coal project is fully permitted for 180,000 t/year with a path to 360,000 t/year, and the underground tunnel is close to the eight coal seams targeted for extraction.
  • He points to late-2025 Yukon drill results — 3.4 g/t gold over 45 m and 2 g/t gold over 78 m with mineralization in all 15 holes — plus a step-out hit about 800 m beyond the known zone, with 2026 planned for first infill drilling and more meters than all prior years.
  • He explains the just-over-$3 million financing closed at the end of March 2026: hard dollars advance the Colombia coal project toward revenue while flow-through dollars fund the 2026 Yukon campaign.
  • He credits Forge's directly employed 32-person team in Colombia — led by a country manager with over 40 years of coal experience and ties at the local, regional, and federal levels — for securing full permitting and enabling potentially industry-leading extraction costs.

Forge Resources pairs a fully permitted Colombian coal project nearing revenue with high-grade gold and copper exploration in the Yukon. The barbell model uses coal cash flow to self-fund exploration, offering non-dilutive drilling that most junior miners cannot match. Alotta step-out drilling (holes testing beyond the known zone) hit mineralization in all 15 holes, including 3.4g/t gold over 45m. The Alotta project sits near Western Copper and Gold's world-class Casino deposit in a district the guest calls hot for gold, copper, and silver. A just over $3 million financing closed end of March; hard dollars advance Colombia toward revenue, flow-through funds 2026 Yukon drilling.
