President & CEO | Oreterra Metals Corp. (TSXV: OTMC) | Founding CEO of GT Gold, acquired by Newmont

"Founding CEO of GT Gold, whose Saddle North copper-gold discovery in BC's Golden Triangle was acquired by Newmont in 2021; now CEO of Oreterra Metals."

Mining Executive

Biography

Kevin Keough is a geologist and junior-mining executive who has spent more than two decades founding and running discovery-stage exploration companies, most of them in British Columbia's Golden Triangle. He is President, CEO, and a director of Oreterra Metals Corp. (TSXV: OTMC), where his flagship project is Trek South, a copper-gold porphyry target — porphyry deposits are large, typically low-grade bodies that hold much of the world's copper and gold — adjacent to the Galore Creek project in northwest BC. His record is why resource investors track him: he has repeatedly taken early-stage ground to a discovery that a major mining company wanted to own.

Keough holds a geology degree from Queen's University and did early career work with De Beers in Africa before founding the consultancy Keough Associates in 2001. He was founding President and CEO of PC Gold (2007-2011), advancing the historic Pickle Crow gold property near Pickle Lake, Ontario. In 2016 he founded GT Gold and, as CEO, delivered the Saddle South epithermal gold-silver discovery (epithermal veins form near the surface, often in hot-spring-style systems) and the Saddle North copper-gold porphyry discovery near Iskut, BC; Newmont's takeover of GT Gold, announced in March 2021 at roughly US$393 million (about C$486 million), closed that May. In 2019 he co-founded Evergold Corp., whose Holy Cross property near Stewart, BC, yielded a high-grade epithermal gold-silver discovery, and he served as its President and CEO until stepping down in January 2026.

His method is disciplined, discovery-driven exploration in proven mining districts: acquire underexplored ground with the right geoscience, fund it properly, and drill the best target first. "The geoscience alignment at Trek South is exactly what we saw before at GT Gold — and that was the key," he told InvestorNews in November 2025. He invests his own money alongside shareholders and is candid about the risk: "You don't invest in us unless you're prepared to take a gamble."

At Oreterra — Romios Gold Resources, rebranded under Keough in early 2026 — he set out to raise C$6 million and closed C$9.7 million instead, then launched Trek South's first-ever drill program in mid-2026. Phase 1 drilling wrapped later that year with visible copper minerals in core, and a second phase is planned for 2027. The portfolio also includes the Kinkaid copper-gold-silver project in Nevada's Walker Lane trend and the Lundmark Lake volcanogenic massive sulphide project (VMS — metal deposits formed on ancient sea floors) in Ontario, near Orla Mining's Musselwhite mine. Following Keough today means watching a repeat attempt at the GT Gold discovery playbook — high-risk, early-stage, but run by an executive who has done it before.

Oreterra Metals Anticipates a “High Likelihood” of Delivering a Discovery This Summer

guest Jun 9, 2026
  • Top takeaway The CEO argues Trek South has a very high likelihood of yielding a discovery of significance this summer because geochemical, geophysical, and alteration anomalies all stack in one spot and are visible in bare rock at surface.
  • His stated playbook is to find, drill, and quantify a significant discovery and then potentially sell the company to a larger player — the same approach he says succeeded with GT Bold a few years ago.
  • He is explicit that the company is early-stage and high risk, but contends Trek South already shows everything he looks for in a discovery candidate.
  • On timing, he expects the VP of exploration on site in June 2026, camp construction from about July 16, two drills turning by early August, and first results to the market as early as August.
  • He presents the March 2026 financing as strong validation: non-brokered, closed after one day of marketing, repeatedly upsized on overflow demand, and backed by some of the largest Canadian resource-focused funds.

Oreterra Metals — rebranded from Romios Gold — starts a 10,000-metre, two-rig drill program in August at its Trek South copper-gold project in British Columbia's Golden Triangle. CEO Kevin Keough argues stacked anomalies — geophysics, geochemistry and alteration in one spot — give Trek South an unusually high chance of a discovery. An oversubscribed, non-brokered $10-million financing — book closed after one day of marketing — left the debt-free company about 30% institutionally owned. Management's stated model is discover, drill, quantify, then sell the company — a playbook it says it ran before — with first-phase results expected in August. The guest cautions the story is early-stage and high-risk, offering only potential capital gains rather than production or revenue.
