Harry Barr
Chairman & CEO | MetalQuest Mining (TSXV: MQM) and New Age Metals (TSXV: NAM) | Junior mining company builder behind Lac Otelnuk iron ore and River Valley palladium
"Reviving large idle Canadian deposits — advancing the Lac Otelnuk iron ore project in Quebec's Labrador Trough and the River Valley palladium project in Ontario."
Biography
Harry Barr is a Vancouver-based mining entrepreneur who serves as Chairman and CEO of two public resource companies: MetalQuest Mining (TSXV: MQM), owner of the Lac Otelnuk iron ore project in Quebec's Labrador Trough, and New Age Metals (TSXV: NAM), advancing the River Valley palladium project near Sudbury, Ontario. For resource investors, his relevance is concrete: he has spent his career moving large Canadian deposits that sat idle through past commodity cycles back toward development decisions.
Barr has worked in the mining industry for more than 35 years, managing public exploration companies. According to his company biographies, teams he has built have signed more than 43 option and joint-venture agreements with major mining companies and over 300 with mid-tier and junior firms, worked on projects in nine countries across three continents, and raised roughly $300 million through private placements, equity financings, and option agreements.
His method is the option and joint-venture model: advance a project to a documented milestone, then bring in a partner with the balance sheet to spend. At Lac Otelnuk, MetalQuest controls 306 claims around a deposit covered by a historic 2015 feasibility study (a Met-Chem technical report under NI 43-101 — the Canadian standard for public disclosure of mineral projects) that outlined a historical resource of 20.64 billion tonnes measured and indicated at 29.8% total iron, with prior operators reporting about $120 million spent on the ground. In 2026 the company shipped more than 600 kg of legacy drill core to COREM, a Quebec mineral-processing research centre, for a 26-week metallurgical program targeting DR-grade concentrate (direct-reduction grade — the low-silica feed used in electric-arc steelmaking), guided by an AtkinsRealis gap analysis and a 2023 exploration and pre-development agreement with the Naskapi First Nation of Kawawachikamach. The company also added the adjoining Superior Iron project, roughly 27,425 hectares, in late 2025, and states its objective plainly: establish a joint-venture partner to fund development.
At New Age Metals, the same approach spans critical and platinum-group metals. The flagship River Valley project, about 100 kilometres from Sudbury, is a 100%-owned, multi-million-ounce palladium deposit at the PEA stage (Preliminary Economic Assessment — an early study of whether a deposit can be mined profitably). The company also holds one of the largest land positions in Manitoba's Winnipeg River pegmatite field near the historic Tanco mine, targeting lithium-cesium-tantalum, alongside divisions in Ontario's Ring of Fire, Thunder Bay, and Newfoundland gold-antimony.
Following Barr gives investors a working view of how junior operators de-risk large, low-grade deposits in cycles that reward critical and green metals, and how partnership structures can carry projects no small company could fund on its own. His chairman's messages on MetalQuest's website, published roughly quarterly, are the clearest running record of that method in action.
