Félix Lapointe
CEO, Scalium+ | Scandium Canada Ltd. (TSX-V: SCD) | Co-founder of Ferreol Technologies and the Scalium aluminum-scandium alloy
"Building the commercial side of scandium — Scalium aluminum-scandium alloys already shipping in Ferreol skis and under EV-motor research, while Scandium Canada develops the Crater Lake project in Quebec."
Biography
Félix Lapointe is the co-founder and CEO of Scalium+ Inc., the alloy-commercialization subsidiary of Scandium Canada Ltd. (TSX-V: SCD), and a co-founder of Ferreol Technologies, the Quebec materials company behind the Scalium® family of aluminum-scandium alloys. His relevance to resource investors is concrete: he runs the commercial half of a vertically integrated scandium strategy — scandium is a scarce metal that, added in small amounts, makes aluminum far stronger — selling alloys today while Scandium Canada's Crater Lake project in Quebec, which the company positions as North America's only primary scandium source, advances toward production.
Lapointe co-founded Ferreol in 2019 with Jonathan Audet and Étienne Boucher, classmates in mechanical engineering at Université Laval in Quebec City. The startup built high-end skis around aluminum-scandium alloys — among the first consumer products to use the material — and developed its own alloy family, Scalium®, which the company reports tested up to 45% stronger than typical aerospace-grade 7075 aluminum. On June 29, 2026, Scandium Canada acquired Ferreol Technologies for roughly $6.6 million — $2 million in cash plus about 22 million shares — with an earn-out of up to $2.45 million tied to revenue, renamed it Scalium+, and appointed Lapointe its CEO.
His approach is demand-first: prove the alloy in commercial products now and let mine supply follow. Scalium® has since been adopted across Ferreol's entire 2026–2027 ski collection, including a defence line, and Scalium+ signed a research agreement with the University of Windsor's CHARGE Lab to evaluate aluminum-scandium wire in electric-vehicle traction motors. Lapointe frames the subsidiary as advancing on the strength of its science, independent of the Crater Lake mine timeline — a meaningful distinction in a market where scandium has historically been produced only as a byproduct of other metals.
For investors tracking scandium, now on government critical-minerals lists thanks to demand from lightweighting, electric vehicles, and defence, Lapointe's updates are a useful read on whether commercial alloy demand can scale ahead of mine supply. He laid out the end-to-end supply chain strategy on CEO.CA's Inside the Boardroom in July 2026 and continues to lead Scalium+ after Scandium Canada hired a former General Motors critical-materials executive as its president and CEO in August 2026.
