President & CEO | Northstar Gold Corp. (CSE: NSG) | P.Geo. advancing high-grade copper-gold near Kirkland Lake, Ontario

"Surgical mining plan for high-grade copper at Northstar Gold's Cam Copper project; 40+ years in exploration including Placer Dome and Quadra Mining."

Mining Executive

Biography

Brian P. Fowler, P.Geo. (a registered professional geologist), is president, CEO and a director of Northstar Gold Corp. (CSE: NSG), a Vancouver-based junior company exploring its 100%-owned Miller copper-gold property near Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He is known for the company's "surgical mining" plan at the Cam Copper project — a proposal to mine a narrow, high-grade copper zone through large-diameter boreholes instead of a conventional mine, aiming for early cash flow with roughly $1.5 million of upfront capital. For investors tracking small copper-gold developers, Fowler is the geologist setting that direction and the qualified person behind Northstar's technical disclosure.

His record spans more than 40 years. Fowler holds a BSc in geology from the University of Alberta (1981) and spent 1991 to 2004 at Placer Dome, where he managed regional exploration and feasibility-stage work on projects including Musselwhite in Ontario, Mount Milligan and the Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell copper-gold district in British Columbia. He was exploration manager for Quadra Mining from 2004 to 2005, evaluating copper projects in Canada, the United States, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Australia. As a founder, officer or director of juniors including BCGold Corp., Laurentian Gold Fields, RedQuest Capital and Engineer Gold Mines, he raised more than $20 million in the capital markets before listing Northstar on the Canadian Securities Exchange in January 2020.

At Cam Copper, the target is Zone 2, a steeply dipping VMS (volcanogenic massive sulphide — metal-rich material deposited on an ancient seafloor) horizon of chalcopyrite and bornite traced over about 125 metres of strike and 200 metres of depth, open at depth. Drilling there has returned 3.05% copper, 5.9 g/t (grams per tonne) gold and 22.9 g/t silver over 3.07 metres, plus a 13.95% copper intercept deeper in the system. Under a July 2025 letter of intent with Novamera, Northstar would evaluate extracting about 116,000 tonnes of Zone 2 material over roughly 31 months through 93 large-diameter surface holes, with Novamera earning a 5% revenue share. Fowler is explicit that this is a conceptual Exploration Target (75,000 to 140,000 tonnes at 9–18% copper) — an early, unverified estimate, not a National Instrument 43-101 (Canada's mineral disclosure standard) mineral resource — and that no production decision has been made.

The pilot sits inside an $11 million "Surgical Mining for Critical Minerals" project run with Novamera and Micon International through the DIGITAL supercluster, which approved up to $4 million in co-investment; Northstar received the first payment of $627,663 in July 2026. Fowler has committed to commissioning a 43-101 technical report and mineral resource estimate and to securing permits before any extraction. Following him means watching a live test of whether precision mining can turn small, high-grade critical-mineral deposits into self-financing exploration companies, with Northstar's Miller gold drilling — including 8.0 g/t gold over 15 metres in 2020 — as a parallel value driver.

A New Way to Mine? 116,000 Tonnes of Copper Targeted Over 31 Months

  • Top takeaway Fowler argues the discrete, high-grade CAM Copper deposit is ideal for surgical mining and that Northstar can be the platform to prove the technique at a scale never attempted before.
  • He presents the Number 2 zone target of about 140,000 tonnes grading 9-18% copper as the basis for a compact 31-month surgical mining campaign.
  • He frames the path to production as deliberate: finish technical studies, upgrade the block model, complete a resource estimate and metallurgical work, then give Nova Mera a notice of intent to proceed by the end of 2027.
  • He acknowledges the technology has only been tried in a small program at the Golden Promise mine in Newfoundland, so the CAM Copper plan would be a first at this scale.
  • He argues the Allied gold system makes the Miller property a two-metal story, citing the 2022 SRK Canada study of roughly half a million near-surface ounces at just over 2 g/t gold and plans for another drill program later in 2026 or early winter.

Northstar Gold's first $627,000 co-investment payment from DIGITAL unlocks access to a $4 million non-dilutive funding package — no shareholder dilution. A Nova Mera production scenario targets up to 116,000 tonnes of mineralized material — conceptual average grade around 12% copper — over 31 months. Surgical mining — a turnkey extraction technique suited to small, discreet high-grade deposits — has never been tried at this scale, the CEO says. An exploration target — a conceptual estimate, not yet a formal resource — outlines 140,000 tonnes grading 9-18% copper at Cam Copper. A resource estimate is underway, and a fall/winter drill program targets the nearby Allied gold deposit — outlined at half a million near-surface ounces.
